So far this month, people have logged into mendoa. There have been theories posted and arguments have been submitted.

Now mendoa has tags. What next?

I hope you're enjoying the new tag feature. The question is: what now?

I have a few things in mind, such as starting work on the spam filter, though I don't foresee spam becoming a problem in the near future until this site actually has a sizable user base.

I've also considered a better meta-scoring method, so we don't just see a score for a user that is a direct correlation to their posts and comments. Maybe something that weights those submissions along with how long they've been a member or something to that effect.

I'm pretty sure I won't be implementing a message system. Users can already freely offer a homepage, so if someone wants to get in contact with another person, they can do it that way.

I've considered facebook integration, but that is not only a pain, I have serious reservations about A) letting facebook into my business and B) letting facebook into our users' business.

Also, as a side note, I removed ads. They're ugly, and until I have a good method to let people remove them by paying a small fee, I won't be showing them again. Also, I won't be offering a way to pay until the site is actually worth paying for in terms of having an active user base and some additional perk features on top of removing ads. I hate being an ad guy without a decent alternative to offer.

So let's hear those suggestions.

So apparently my server was hacked last night. I'm still cleaning it up. That just wasn't very nice.

Cleaned up, at least on mendoa.com and jordanwages.com. Looks like cs-mic.com is a gonner. Oh well, that needed to be not drupal anyway. :)

Edit: It is worth noting that the database appears to be untouched/viewed. Email addresses and passwords should be safe.

For what its worth, the Top Users link now accurately scores the activity of the user in relation to other users. If you're curious, theories and argument posts are weighted higher than votes on theories which in turn are weighted more than votes on arguments

First, a quick suggestion: Please, larger size text will make it easier to follow what's being said. In these words: "...new activity and garner new members..." the rn in "garner" looked like an m, changing the word to "gamer" (possible typo?) which I was about to assume meant that people who are very game are of high value. Then, with help from a magnifying glass... "garner" appeared. I am an older guy with bifocals.

Regarding ads - they may be ugly, obnoxious, etc, but, if they can pay the freight, they're really great. A membership fee is likely to kill the whole project. There are plenty of forums where we can talk for free, including a "Conversations" area at ted.com (one of the best sites I have seen).

A suggestion: when one signs in, then clicks on a tag (let's use "peace" as an example) we see the original post that I wrote, but none of the comments that I might want to comment on... Can a click on a tag reveal the whole conversation? It will be useful to bring those new to the discussion/debate up to speed and knowledgeable regarding points already made.

On the "Link Love"... blue, underlined text always suggests to me that I might want to click here.

Best regards, Earl

Changing default text size would make a great option in a users settings page.

I'm not sure I agree about the membership idea. I'm not proposing a full out membership model, where non paying users get blocked completely. I would consider more of a way to opt out of seeing ads. You could pay two or three dollars a month to NOT see the ads in the side bar. The site is fully featured either way.

The text size suggestion has made it to the top my queue, though. I'll be working on it soon. As soon as that pesky day job isn't taking up all of my free time. :)

Question: how do we view a complete discussion, including comments?

When you view the post, comments are not laid out as on traditional forums. All comments/arguments that agree with the original post will appear on the left of the screen in green. All comments/arguments disagreeing with the original post will appear on the left in red. If you follow the link to a particular argument, it will be highlighted in a brighter green or red.

You're seeing the entire discussions. For example, clicking this link: http://mendoa.com/new_comment.php?t=45&a=185 will highlight your comment, but everything for the original post is still shown on the page.

*The tips are great. It would be even greater to be able to click on "Tip#69" to reach a page full of them.

*The <3 (heart) that we click to subscribe to an idea does not change to "unsubscribe" when we roll over the icon. This leaves me wondering if I have successfully subscribed or not.

*I know that clicking on the idea title brings up the whole discussion, but I saw in Tip#8 that one should click on the word "Idea," off to the right.

*At a user's profile, we see the posted Ideas... could the comments be listed, too? (work, work, work... brought to you by the Merciless Mangler of Mendoa!)

You asked for (beta tester?) feedback, right?
